To ensure young people have more involvement in the design and
delivery of services that affect them

- To have in place a Thanet Youth Council (TYC) as a consultation
forum for the district
- To have an established ‘Youth Mayor’ for Thanet linked to
democracy week 2008

2. Communication - know what's available and what's going
on
The aim:
- To measure distance travelled as against baselines established
in 2007 (e.g. have your say) and monitor new need as required
- An efficient channel of communication that drives and looks
after issues relating to Young People
- Youth Community Network to develop a communication plan that
meets the needs identified
- Increased awareness of the services activities and facilities
available to Young People
- Improved community relations
- Reduced negative perceptions of Young People
The outcome:
- Bi annual survey to measure progress on achieving outcomes and
ensure targeted activity
- Youth Communicators Network for professionals linked with the
Thanet Youth Council
- Effective communication with all Young People and their
families
- Positive promotion of Young People
- Intergenerational and community relations
- Continued interagency co ordination
- Reaching harder to reach young people e.g. Looked After

3. Access – Facilities, activities and services
The aim:
- Safer stronger communities fund board to develop a programme
for engaging with Young People in Cliftonville West and Margate
Central
- Improve access by Young People to local services and
facilities
- Establish a central point of access to support services,
activities and facilities for the whole community
The outcome:
- To have better engagement with the different groups that
- reside in these areas and help prevent ASB
- Raised awareness with youth service providers about facilities
and opportunities available in the Gateway
- Pilot community venue in a central location supported by
multi-agency participation
