Extend Services in Thanet
Extended services are a variety of activities and services
available to children, young people, families and the wider
community, sometimes held in local schools and often provided
beyond the school day (i.e. before the school day starts and after
3:15pm).
By 2010, the Government wants all schools to be Extended
Schools, providing access to the five main areas of Extended
Services, either by offering the service or activities themselves,
or by working in partnership with others to signpost parents to
where they can access the services and activities they need and are
interested in. These five areas are known as the ‘core offer’, and
are:
-
Childcare (available from 8am-6pm throughout the year)
Giving children a good start in the crucial
early years and supporting working parents or those wanting to
re-train to the benefit of the whole family.
-
Varied menu of activities
Giving children a choice of opportunities to
enjoy and excel outside the classroom.
Opening the doors to the community,
including adult learning opportunities.
Helping parents engage with their children’s
learning by offering support where needed and fun opportunities to
learn together. Giving parents access to information and guidance
on issues that may affect their children and wider family.
-
Swift and Easy Referral to Specialist
Services
Making sure parents and families know where
and how to get fast, specialist support when needed.
