Are you a parent or carer for young people?

The aim for Thanet Youth Matters is to ensure that as many young people (aged between 11 - 19), parents, carers and people who work with young people are aware of the website and newsletters as a way of finding out about youth events and information locally.

Thanet Youth Matters is a partnership project led by Thanet District Council and the Engage Youth Forum together with a number of other youth organisations in Thanet, which has been developed after work on the youth strategy and survey in 2007.

Through the youth strategy work, young people and people who work with young people asked for information on events, facilities, advice and support to be available in one central place, which is why the Thanet Youth Matters website and the Youth Matters newsletters have been set up.

Over 20,000 newsletters have been printed and are being distributed free through local secondary schools, youth clubs, libraries and public places – you can download a copy online here or call 01843 577050 to receive a copy.

It is planned to pilot four editions of the newsletter throughout the year and if successful continue this in the future.

There are two versions of the newsletter  - one version for 11-14 year olds and another for 15-19 year olds. This website is divided clearly into different sections aimed at each age group, with different colours used to indicate each area

In the 15-19 newsletter and web section, there may be content that is only suitable for this older age range. It could include information about sexual health, drugs or crime that may not be suitable for a younger audience.

  • The http://thanetkids.co.uk/  website is well worth a visit packed with lots of useful and valuable information to parents and young people in Thanet including what's on, places to go, parent & toddler groups, useful contact details plus much much more.

  • To search over 400 community or voluntary groups visit http://communityportal.thanet.gov.uk/home/ - this website lists a range of groups from sea cadets to local historical clubs.

Whilst every effort to communicate this adult content has been made through the use of a disclaimer on the back page of the newsletter and the categorisation by age used online – we cannot guarantee that younger readers may not visit the older pages.
