The world is your oyster

What are your plans when you finish school or college? Which direction is your life going to take? We’ve put together some thoughts and useful information for you with help from Connexions:

A few questions to get you started:

  • Have you made any decisions about continuing at school or attending College?
  • Have you decided what you want to study?
  • Are you planning to get a job?

Some thoughts to help you:

While you were at school you should have had access to some support and guidance from both the school and from a Connexions Personal Adviser who will have taken you through all the options available to you if you are leaving school. The good news is that your Connexions Personal Adviser can still help you even when you have left school or College! Full contact details are at the end of this article. The service is free and confidential to all young people aged 13 – 19 and in special circumstances until you are 24.

You could choose to study at a school sixth form, or at one of the colleges (Thanet College, Canterbury College or South Kent College). Otherwise there are a range of work based learning opportunities that may interest you more. There is a prospectus with loads of options available for you at http://www.kentchoices4u.com/. Just go on the website, search for what you want, and then apply online.

Alternatively, contact Connexions for some help (full details are bottom of the page).

And don’t forget, you may be eligible for EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) …

Are you thinking of getting a job?

If you have good exam results and/or have some skills to offer an employer, getting a job may be for you. The staff at Connexions can help you to write your CV and also with applying for jobs. See the Jobs Live page on http://www.connexionskentandmedway.co.uk/

A health warning though – some young people find it really hard to get that first job, so think about having a back-up plan in case you are not very lucky this time around. Connexions has an information pack that may help you with this.
