Parkour style in Margate

Interview by Charlotte Ruffy and Photos taken by Yasmin Vassiliou

Meet the lads that do Parkour

A sunny afternoon in Margate and a group of lads are doing Parkour. Ever heard of it? Neither had we but by the end we were experts, well nearly….

Charlotte - So then boys, what actually is Parkour?

Lewis - It’s an urban way of movement, the most efficient way of getting from A to B.

Charlotte - Great, how did you get into it?

Jack - I met some people that already did it and they got me into it.

Charlotte - How long have you been doing it for?

James - 4 years, Ben - 3 years, Michael - 2 years, Lewis - 1 year, Jack - 4-5 months

Charlotte - Wow you’re dedicated to your hobby, but it must take a lot of work, so when do you practice?

Ben - I try to everyday, depending on the weather.

Charlotte - Some of the moves look really difficult, have you ever hurt yourself?

Michael - You get loads but I’ve never had any really bad injuries

James - I’ve had tons none that are serious though. I know someone that had a bad fall, he’s fine now though.

Charlotte - I’ve noticed that you are all boys, have you seen any girls doing Parkour?

Michael - I haven’t seen any, but we would welcome them to join in.

Charlotte - Your group has older and younger people in it, does that not bother you?

Lewis - Not really because you can learn stuff from the older people, and if you are an

older person its fun to pass your skills on to younger people.

Charlotte - What clothes would you say are the best to wear when doing Parkour?

James - Any loose clothes. They will let you move a lot more and you’ll be more

comfortable.

Thanks for giving us an insight into Parkour and good luck for the future. To see the lads in action visit YouTube and type in ‘Parkour in Thanet’.
